Olive oil traceability, step by step

Frequently asked questions

Goal: Answer the six most common questions honestly.

Does a blockchain guarantee the oil is good?

No. It guarantees that what was recorded has not been changed afterwards. Quality depends on who measures and on real-world checks: that is why each phase is signed by a specific actor, with a proof.

What if someone lies at the first step?

The chain also keeps the lie, with the name of who wrote it. It cannot prevent it: it makes it attributable. To reduce the risk you need inspections, accredited laboratories and spot checks.

Who pays?

Each write on the chain has a small cost, paid by the producer or by the body running the register. Whoever scans the QR pays nothing and needs no wallet. The demo uses a worthless test network.

Can the registry be edited?

Steps already recorded cannot be deleted or rewritten. A mistake is corrected by adding a new record, and the previous one stays visible. The recall is one more piece of information added once.

Is this a real brand?

No. Pietre di Vita is a fictional mill, with fake data, on a test network. It shows how the mechanism works, not how to sell oil.

What are the limits?

You need verified identities of the actors, physical checks at the source, a supply-chain agreement on the data format and careful privacy handling. Chapter 9 lists them one by one.
